A MAN whose string of crimes included assault, drug possession, and criminal damage has been sentenced by magistrates in Cornwall. 

Jed Madron, aged 38, from Trelawney Place in Copperhouse, Hayle, appeared in front of magistrates at Truro Magistrates' Court on Monday, October 2, 2023, on one count of common assault; one count of assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm; one count of possession of Class B drug; and two counts of criminal damage under £5,000. 

The offences took place in March 2023 when, on Friday, March 3, Madron assaulted a female victim in Newlyn by assaulting her. Then, on Thursday, March 9, Madron, without lawful excuse, destroyed a whiskey glass belonging to The Star Inn in Newlyn, intending to destroy or damage such property or being reckless as to whether such property would be destroyed or damaged. 

On that same Thursday in Newlyn, Madron also assaulted a male victim thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm. Then, in Camborne, Madron had in his possession 7.6 grams of cannabis, as well as, without lawful excuse, damaged a Police van, to the value of £80 belonging to Devon and Cornwall Police intending to destroy or damage such property or being reckless as to whether such property would be destroyed or damaged. 

Madron indicated a plea of guilty to all five of the offences. 

During his sentencing, Madron was fined £1,600 and made to pay compensation totalling £380 as well as pay costs to the Crown Prosecution Service of £85 and a surcharge of £640. 

The cannabis was forfeited for destruction with the court also noting that Madron's guilty pleas were taken into account when imposing the sentence.
