A MEMORIAL service is to be held at a Cornish church next month to remember the life of their much-loved churchwarden.

The congregation of Wendron Church near Helston are mourning the loss of George ‘Bevan’ Osborne who sadly passed away on October 1 aged 88.

Members of the church have announced that on November 11, a service of celebration to honour his church work and to remember him will take place at Wendron Church.

Mr Osborne not only had a history of services to churches throughout the Diocese of Truro and beyond but also worked tirelessly in the local community.

Always keen to keep to the traditions of his calling, Mr Osborne’s knowledge of the church protocol was said to be ‘legendary’ and his thoroughness was recognised when he was awarded the St. Pirans Cross in March 2018 which was presented by the Right Reverent Tim Thornton, Bishop of Truro.

In March 2018, his achievements were royally acknowledged when he was invited to Windsor Castle to receive Maundy money from Her Majesty the Queen in recognition of his service.

Wendron Primary School which is located close to the church is allowing members of the public to park in the playground on Saturday, November 11. There will also be refreshments served in the school hall after the service.
