Police are looking for dashcam footage after a woman died in a single vehicle collision on Saturday afternoon.

Police were called to the A390 Southbourne Road in St Austell at around 3.55pm on October 21 following the collision involving a Kia Venga. 

A man and a woman in the Kia suffered life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospital.

Sadly the woman in her 80s and from the St Austell area died of her injuries at Derriford Hospital yesterday (October 22). The man, who's in his 70s and from Newquay, remains in hospital.

The road was closed for three and a half hours while an investigation was carried out by specialist officers. 

A statement issued by Devon and Cornwall Police said: "A woman has died following a single car collision in St Austell on Saturday afternoon, 21 October.

"Police were called at 3.55pm after the collision involving a white Kia Venga on the A390 Southbourne Road.

"A man and a woman sustained life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospital.

"Sadly, the woman, in her 80s and from the St Austell area, died of her injuries at Derriford Hospital yesterday, 22 October.

"The man, in his 70s and from the Newquay area, remains in hospital.

"The road was closed for thee-and-a-half hours while an investigation was carried out at the scene and officers would like to thank the public for their patience during the closure."

A report from Cornwall Fire and Rescue service said:  "Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service Critical Control received calls from Southwest Ambulance Service and Devon & Cornwall Police to a road traffic collision, where two persons were trapped.

"Appliances from St Austell and Mevagissey were mobilised along with the rescue tender from Bodmin and a wholetime officer.

"On arrival crews found two casualties trapped in their vehicle. Ambulance, Police and Air Ambulance were already in attendance. Both casualties were extricated by crews using crash rescue equipment and left in the care of Southwest Ambulance Service.

"Fire crews remained on scene making the vehicle safe and the incident was handed over to Police."

Police officers are conducting enquiries into the collision and asking anyone with information or with relevant dashcam footage to contact police online or by telephone on 101, quoting log number 511 of 21 October.
