The landlady of the Golden Lion Inn pub on the shores of Stithians Lake has announced that she has decided to stop trading to seek a better work life balance.

Emma Moore made the announcement on Facebook blaming the economic downturn and a death in the family.

Consequently the pub would be closing its doors tonight at 11pm while owners St Austell Brewery try and find someone else to run it.

Announcing the closure on the Pub’s Facebook page, Emma said it was not a decision she had taken lightly: “I would like to inform all our friends and family of The Golden Lion that I have decided to stop trading,” she said.

“This is not a decision I have taken lightly.

“Due to the economic downturn and loss of a family member I have decided to seek a more balanced work/life for myself and my family.

“Unfortunately this does mean The Golden Lion will close of as today Sunday October 29 at 11pm.

“St Austell Brewery has been informed and they are working with staff and myself to find new ownership in order for the closure to be short term.

“I would like to take this opportunity to send all our customers a huge thank you.

“From Emma and all the Golden Lion staff xxx”.

The closure follows the closure of four pubs in Cornwall. Last week Matt Ferguson director of West Cornwall Inns announced he was being forced to close all four of his pubs due to the current economic climate.

The company ceased trading on Sunday, October 22 leading to the closure of the Queen's Arms at Breage, Henlys in Helston, the Fire Engine at Marazion and The Coldstreamer at Gulval on that date.

It was reported in the first half of this year up two pubs a day were closing due to the economic turndown.
