Hundreds of people didn't let the weather put them off when they gathered in a rainy Falmouth this morning to remember the fallen from two world wars and beyond.

Ceremonies and parades also took place in Helston, Penryn and surrounding villages.

In Falmouth at 10.30am the parade consisting of old and future soldiers formed up The Moor before setting off up the road towards the Kimberley Park Memorial led by the pipes of the Kernow Pipes and Drums.

The parade formed up around the war memorial which had four standard bearers on each corner with with veterans, police and army cadets the RNLI and youngsters from Falmouth cubs, scouts and guides.

The two minutes silence was observed after a short service by Father Froom and the salutation made following the sounding of the Last Post.

Wreaths were then laid at the foot of the memorial by representatives from organisations in the area as well as the Mayor of Falmouth Kirstie Edwards and representatives from the armed forces. Also laying a wreath was Falmouth and Truro MP Cherilyn Mackrory.

Among the "old soldiers" taking part were Nick Leonard and Tony Bell ex-Navy and ex-Royal Engineers respectively.

Cllr David Saunby and Cllr Geoffrey Evans MBE also laid a poppy wreath at the Cross of Sacrifice in the Old Falmouth Cemetery which commemorates the dead of World War One. Brandon Tuffery played the lament Flowers of the Forest on the pipes.
