A 30-YEAR-old woman who assaulted a girl under the age of 18 has been sentenced by a court in Cornwall.

Rachel Barbara Pallas Gilbert, aged 30, of Dabryn Way in St Stephen, St Austell, appeared in front of magistrates at Truro Magistrates' Court on Thursday, November 16, 2023, on one count of assault by beating and one count of the commissioning of a further offence whilst subject to a conditional discharge.

The offences took place on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, on Rectory Road in St Austell where Gilbert assaulted a female victim who was under the age of 18 years old and who cannot be named for legal reasons. The offence also took place while Gilbert was subject to a conditional discharge order for a period of 18 months.

Gilbert pleaded not guilty to the assault but was found guilty on October 3, 2023.

During her sentencing, she was made the subject of a community order under which she must take part in a rehabilitation activity for up to a maximum of 25 days. She was also fined £250 and made to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £114 as well as pay costs of £200 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

No action was taken over the breach and no compensation was ordered as the court felt it would inflame the situation.
