Trevena Cross Nurseries has shared more about the plans for its café, which it said would reopen in the spring with a brand new look and theme.

It has also sought to reassure existing cafe staff over their future.

Earlier this month the garden centre at Breage, on the Helston to Penzance road, confirmed that its existing set-up, in the form of the Garden Kitchen Café, would be closing at the end of January 2024.

It said the café building would reopen in early March after extensive refurbishment, and with a new name, under Trevena Cross management.

Now Trevena has shared more details about its plans, which include a new jungle look to the café.

In a statement it said: “We have some exciting news to share with you. As you know our Garden Kitchen Cafe will be temporarily closing its doors in January, but fear not – it's all part of a fantastic transformation into something truly special!

“We are giving the Garden Kitchen Cafe a makeover. We're thrilled to announce that we are planning to create a jungle look for the refurbished and relaunched café, while still providing the relaxed dining menu that you have become used to over the years.

“While the cafe is temporarily closed from the end of January to the end of February, get ready to come to the jungle when we reopen!”

The news of the existing café’s closure caused some concern on social media, including over the future of the existing café staff, which the garden centre has now addressed in its statement.

It said: “To our amazing cafe team, we want to assure you that your jobs are safe and sound. All current cafe employees will have the opportunity to transfer to positions within the newly-refurbished cafe, and your contributions will continue to be an essential part of our success.

“Your well-being is our priority, and we're excited to embark on this journey with you.

“Along with the refurbishment, we're introducing a fantastic new management team and chef. Their fresh perspectives and innovative ideas using the freshest produce grown right here at Trevena Cross will enhance the overall cafe experience for all our customers.”

Trevena said it also wanted to “address misinformation,” adding: “We've heard there might be some concerns and misinformation circulating about job security. We want to make it crystal clear – none of the current Garden Kitchen Cafe employees are losing their job.

“In fact, all the current cafe employees will have the opportunity to continue with us at Trevena Cross.”

Trevena said it appreciated customers’ "understanding and support" as its team created the “Jungle Café experience”, with further updates to follow.

It finished by saying: “The refurbishment comes with exciting benefits – improved facilities, captivating aesthetics, and a more enjoyable environment for both our customers and employees. We can't wait to share the transformed space with you.

“Remember that the Garden Kitchen Cafe will be continuing in its current format right through December and January before the refurbishment starts. We look forward to seeing you again soon.”
