ARSON has been identified as the cause for two vehicles being on fire near Penryn during the early hours of this morning (Weds Dec 6). 

At around 3am on the morning of Wednesday, December 6, an appliance from Falmouth attended a call from Devon and Cornwall Police regarding two vehicles that were on fire in a layby near Herniss. 

The crews used two hose reels and breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire before identifying the cause as being arson. 

A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: "One appliance from Falmouth attended a call from police to two vehicles on fire in a layby near Herniss.

"Crews used two hose reels and two breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire.

"The fires were identified as arson. There are no more details available on this incident."

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police are investigating a suspicious fire in Herniss near Penryn which left two vehicles destroyed.

"Officers located the vehicles on the A394 near Longdowns House just after 3am today, 6 December. The fire service attended as one of the vehicles was still alight.

"Both were left burned out. One vehicle was a Citroen Belingo van. The fire is being treated as arson.

"Officers are investigating and asking for anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious around the time of the incident to contact them.
