A pub in Penryn has raised over £1,500 for a local food bank charity.

The Seven Stars Penryn has been collecting proceeds from its community event nights for the past year, donating to the Penryn & Falmouth Food Bank.

Marc Bosch, the general Manager of the Seven Stars, expressed his gratitude to the pub's staff and customers.

Mr Bosch said: "We know how valuable the food bank is for people and we wanted to do what we could to help our community.

"We couldn’t have raised this amount without our amazing staff and customers – thank you to each of you!"

The donation comes at a vital time as food banks across the country brace themselves for a difficult winter.

The Trussell Trust reported on October 18 that they are "expecting to provide more than one million emergency food parcels between December 2023 and February 2024 – the most parcels ever provided across this period".

In light of the cost-of-living crisis, the Penryn & Falmouth Food Bank will undeniably benefit from such a generous donation.

A representative from the Penryn & Falmouth Food Bank expressed immense gratitude for the pub's support.

The charity spokesperson said: "We’re delighted to receive this donation from a small business in our community and we are amazed at the effort they have made.

"Demand is unfortunately very high at the moment.

"Any donations are desperately needed."

The Seven Stars Penryn, apart from being a traditional community hub, has seven unique letting rooms and a spacious outside terrace ideal for summer events.

The pub pledges an inclusive outlook based on its motto "Onen Hag Oll", the Cornish motto for "One and All".
