A large firefighting response from multiple stations in Cornwall was called to reports of a barn and caravan fire in Liskeard in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

At 2.55am on Wednesday (December 13) Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service received multiple reports of the fire which was already well established upon the arrival of the first two fire engines from Liskeard. Crews quickly determined the need for additional resources, requesting two more engines from Looe and Callington.

The fire involved a barn measuring 20 metres by ten metres, which contained agricultural machinery. To extinguish the blaze, crews deployed breathing apparatus sets, two hose reels and two jets. They were also supported by a breathing apparatus support unit from St Austell.

After the fire was brought under control within an hour, investigations into the blaze have begun. However, it has been determined to be accidental.

A spokesperson from Cornwall Fire and Rescue said: “At 02:55 an emergency call was made reporting an agricultural barn and a caravan was on fire.

Two appliances from Liskeard were mobilised. Crews confirmed on arrival that the buildings were well alight and requested 'make pumps four and water carrier one'.

“An additional two appliances from Looe and Callington were mobilised to the scene along with the water carrier from Liskeard, and the Breathing apparatus support unit from St Austell. The barn contained agricultural machinery, crews used two breathing apparatus, two hose reels and two jets to extinguish the fire. This fire has been confirmed as accidental.”
