TWO men from Cornwall were among a number of offenders sentenced to prison at courts in Devon and Cornwall last week. 

The offenders were among several defendants sentenced in courts in Devon and Cornwall between Monday 11 and Friday 15 December 2023.

First on the list is Tristan Jenkin, aged 38, from Redruth, who appeared at Truro Crown Court on Friday 15 December for causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and taking an indecent photograph of a child.

The offences took place between December 2018 and September 2021 and, during his sentencing, Jenkin was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Next on the list is Christopher Haley, aged 40, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to 15 months in prison at Truro Crown Court on Thursday 14 December for actual bodily harm.

The offence took place on Friday, October 13 in St Austell where Haley assaulted a female victim.

According to the Sentencing Council, the maximum sentence for ABH is five years’ custody, however, if the assault is racially or religiously aggravated, the maximum sentence is seven years’ custody. 

The maximum sentence for inciting a child to engage in sexual activity is 14 years’ custody, with the offence ranging from a community order to 10 years’ custody.
