A homophobic racist who abused members of the public and threw wee in the faces of emergency workers trying to help him, including a nurse, has been sent to prison for 52 weeks.

Shane Donovan Wilkes, 51, of Chi an Toll, Truro appeared at Truro Magistrates Court on Wednesday, December 28 for sentencing for a long list of offences going back to 2022.

Magistrates jailed Wilkes for a string of offences which they felt were so serious because they were committed against emergency workers by throwing urine in their faces.

He also hurled racial and homophobic abuse towards members of the public, including a nurse who was trying to help him, and serving police officers as well as using “unacceptable disgusting language which will not be tolerated”.

They found they had no confidence he would engage with any community based penalty and only custody could be justified sentencing him to 52 weeks in total in prison.
