A MAN who harassed a female victim by turning up at her address as well as leaving her voice notes and calling her has been jailed by a court in Cornwall.

Matthew Lane, aged 35, of Lodge Hill, Liskeard, appeared in front of magistrates at Truro Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, on one count of harassment without violence and one count of harassment breach of a restraining order.

The offences took place on or around December 10, 2023, in Liskeard where Lane pursued a course of conduct that amounted to the harassment of a female victim and which he knew or ought to have known amounted to the harassment of her in that he contacted the female victim by telephone communications, sent voice notes and messages and by attending an address in Liskeard.

Lane also breached a restraining order that he was made the subject of by magistrates in Cornwall on March 21, 2023, by attending the address in Liskeard which he was prohibited from doing.

Lane indicated pleas of guilty to both offences and, during his sentencing, was handed down a custodial sentence of 12 weeks, with the court noting that the offences were so serious that only a custodial sentence was appropriate.

Lane was also made to pay costs to the Crown Prosecution Service of £85 and pay a surcharge of £154.

The court also noted how Lane's guilty pleas had been taken into account when imposing the sentence.
