A yellow weather warning for rain has been issued for the whole of the Duchy – just days after the disruption of Storm Henk.

According to the Met Office, heavy rain is expected to hit Cornwall for more than 12 hours on Thursday (January 4) with the yellow weather warning in place from 12pm until 3am on Friday.

Due to the amount of rainfall, the wet weather could potentially bring disruption to the Duchy including power cuts, flooding, and damage to buildings.

The Met Office predicts that a spell of rain is expected to move northeast across southern and eastern parts of England on Thursday, clearing during Thursday night.

The track of the heaviest rainfall remains very uncertain, but there is a chance of 20-33mm falling in six to nine hours across a portion of the warning area, with a few places seeing 40-55mm.

This is the second weather warning this week issued for bad weather in Cornwall. On Tuesday, Storm Henk made its presence known as winds of up to 80mph hit parts of the coastal regions in the South West.

Homes and buildings across Cornwall were affected with two people having to be rescued by crews from Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service after their car had become stuck in flood water.

Just after 1am on Wednesday (January 3) a fire engine from Truro and the Water Rescue Unit from Falmouth attended the vehicle which had become stuck in Little Killow in Truro.

Firefighters used dry suits to assist the two casualties.
