Great Western Railway urging passengers not to start their journey by rail this afternoon  due to heavy rainfall forecast on already flooded ground.

Great Western Railway is advising people against starting their journey by rail and says those who have already travelled should consider making the return journey as soon as possible.

With further flood warnings in place and the amount of rain forecast, Network Rail has identified key sites in Devon and Cornwall as being at risk of flooding from around 3pm. Trains may not be able to operate through these areas.

The direct route between Swindon and Bristol Parkway remains closed due to flooding.

Other locations most at risk include sites between:

Swindon and Bristol Temple Meads, Newton Abbot and Plymouth Exeter and Tiverton Bristol Temple Meads and Western-super-Mare Taunton and Westbury.

Services between London Paddington and Swindon will continue to operate but may be affected by flooding elsewhere.

Customers with tickets for trains later today can use their ticket on earlier services.

The advice comes as the Met Office issued another Yellow warning of rain affecting South West England this morning, including Cornwall.

Another spell of rain falling onto saturated ground, may lead to further flooding and travel disruption.

A spell of rain is expected to move northeast across southern and eastern parts of England on Thursday, clearing during Thursday night.

The track of the heaviest rainfall remains a little uncertain, but 10-20 mm is likely to fall within six hours across much of the warning area, with some places seeing 30-40 mm; these higher accumulations more likely across central southern England.
