After a very wet start to 2024, temperatures are set to plummet in Cornwall next week - and in some areas will feel as low as -7.

The colder weather is set to arrive on Sunday evening, dropping to 0C by 9pm in some places.

Although the Duchy can expect to see plenty of sunshine, it will be chilly throughout the whole of next week.

One of the coldest areas will be Bodmin, where the Met Office has predicted that the temperature will fall to -2 by Tuesday night, although it is likely to feel more like -7 due to wind chill and other factors.

Daytime temperatures will also struggle to get above freezing, reaching a maximum of 2C, although it will feel much colder, and drop to zero by 6pm.

In other parts of the county, including Helston, Falmouth, Truro and Penzance, temperatures will stay just above zero, at 1C, although it will feel more like -4.

The fall in temperature will bring a risk of icy roads and lanes in parts of Cornwall, with the cold spell expected to continue into next week.

However, as of yet, no snow has been predicted for Cornwall, although it is expected that other parts of the country will see flurries fall this month.

James Madden, Exacta Weather forecaster told MSN on Wednesday that widespread and heavy snow showers across large parts of the country can be expected later next week onwards.

James also explained that most, if not all parts of the country dragged into an extended snowy regime over at least seven days.

The Met Office also explained what the weather is going to look and feel like over the next few days: "Next week will begin mostly dry with variable amounts of cloud and some sunny spells. The sunniest weather is likely to be in the north and west. Elsewhere, probably mostly cloudy with a cold easterly breeze developing in the south.

"By the middle of next week, the wind should ease and, with high pressure in charge, there should be a good deal of dry weather. Cloud amounts will continue to be quite variable, but all areas should see some sunshine at times.

"Much colder than recently, with frost probably becoming quite widespread and some freezing fog patches are possible in places.”
