There are delays this evening following a five-vehicle crash on one of the main roads towards Falmouth.

Reports first surfaced on social media, warning of a "five car pile up" on the road leading towards Asda Penryn tonight (Monday) at around 5pm.

Police have now confirmed that an incident is ongoing on the A39, between the Treliever roundabout and the Asda roundabout.

However, while a spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed that five vehicles were involved, she said there did not appear to be any need for medical assistance.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police told the Packet: "The road was blocked at 5pm due to a collision.

"Reports of five cars in a collision, injuries unknown.

"The ambulance is not required. The incident is ongoing."

Traffic sensors show that congestion is easing in the area.

The road has since reopened.
