A POPULAR cut-through in Helston will be closed until the end of the week after residents were left with no power for up to nine hours this week.

On Monday, residents in Coronation Place, Bulwark Road, Glyn Avenue and Charter Close were all left without electricity (January 8).

The incident was reported at around 11.45am to the National Grid, which later revealed that 55 homes in the area had been affected.

It follows issues on Friday evening (January 5), when people living in and around the Bulwark area reported on social media that their broadband connection was down.

Engineers began investigations into what was causing the issue just after 12.30pm.

After 4.30pm they discovered a fault in its underground network which was causing residents in the area to have no power.

The engineers expected the power to be restored by 7pm on Monday, but it wasn’t until 9.15pm that the power was eventually restored.

On Tuesday (January 9) a Coronation Place resident shared a picture of the aftermath of the engineer's works on Bullock Lane – a popular cut-through for people living in the Bulwark area.

According to Cornwall Council and the National Grid, the footpath will be closed off for the remainder of this week for reinstatement work.

A spokesperson for the National Grid told the Packet: “A fault on our low voltage occurred on Friday evening affecting Charter Close which resulted in temporary repairs to keep the power on over the weekend.

“Yesterday we resumed work to excavate and replace an 8m section of faulty cable while that was happening, we were able to maintain power for 30 homes by switching supplies.

"We did have to disconnect 19 properties for several hours, with electricity supplies being restored just before 9pm.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this fault and the resulting repairs have caused.

“We are aiming to complete the road reinstatement work by the end of this week.”
