The New Year started on a high note for an acclaimed Cornish opera singer with the birth of a boy boy.

Rebecca Dale and her partner David Cope welcomed baby Archie Thomas just before Christmas at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Treliske, weighing 9lbs 3oz.

The delighted couple are keeping their fingers crossed he hasn’t inherited his opera-trained mother’s lungs!

Proud mum, Rebecca, from Helston, said: “We are over the moon. To be starting 2024 with a beautiful baby boy in my arms is the greatest gift I could have ever wished for.”

Singing widely throughout Cornwall, Rebecca has built a strong following among opera and music lovers. However, she is particularly well-known for taking leading roles with the Duchy Opera Company.

Last year, she played Santuzza in Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana at Falmouth and Truro, and the year before she played Casilda in Gilbert & Sullivan’s Gondoliers.

Right now though she is practicing her nappy rather than nocturn skills, and keeping her vocal chords in tune by singing soothing lullabies to baby Archie.

Rebecca said: “Archie and I have received the very best of care from everyone who looked after us at hospital, through to the midwife and health visitor, and since arriving back home in the early hours of Christmas Day.

"Archie was born in Treliske, the same as me, so I’ve gone full circle.”
