Celebrity chef Michael Caines has put his last remaining restaurant in Cornwall on the market for £1.25 million.

Mr Caines is selling the Cove Bar & Restaurant on Maenporth Beach near Falmouth just over a year after he closed the Harbour Refuge in Porthleven.

He took over The Cove at Maenporth in 2020 promising an entirely new menu, featuring breakfasts, lunches and afternoon tea, and an à la carte menu offering "elevated beachside fare”.

He opened the restaurant on March 10, 2020 before being forced to close temporarily just two weeks later when the country went into lockdown because of Covid.

However just three years later the top chef has put the restaurant back on the market through SBC Property.

The restaurant is described as being an “Outstanding bar restaurant in a unique idyllic waterside location commanding one of Cornwall’s most beautiful sea views over Maenporth Beach and across Falmouth Bay”.

The Cove Bar & Restaurant comprises a single-storey operation within the Maenporth Estate constructed in the 1980s and comprises a ground floor bar restaurant with ancillary accommodation and outside terrace together with car parking to the front of the property.

The brochure for the sale says the Cove Bar & Restaurant trades as a fully licensed and quality bar restaurant operation that has traded for circa 20+ years.

“The business is open five days a week during the quiet seasons and seven days during the busier seasonal months. Therefore, the opportunity exists to immediately boost revenue by increasing current trading hours.

“The business enjoys an extremely loyal local following which is enhanced during the seasonal months by the many visitors to the area.”

In 2020 Mr Caines also took over Rick Stein’s former restaurant in Porthleven renaming it The Harbour Refuge, however in October 2022 he announced the restaurant’s closure citing "on-going challenges" facing the hospitality industry.

The closure of The Cove means that the chef has now deserted Cornwall completely.

Michael Caines, who appears regularly on television including BBC1's Saturday Kitchen, MasterChef and Sunday Brunch, held two Michelin stars for 18 consecutive years.

Two of Michael Caines' restaurants, at the Lympstone Manor and Gidleigh Park hotels, have won Michelin stars under his leadership.

He also holds an MBE.

Prior to Mr Caines’ takeover, The Cove had been owned and operated by Arty Williams and Annette Rickard for 17 years.
