A Cornwall-based project has received £10,000 from the National Lottery Community Fund to enhance end-of-life care.

No One Dies Alone Cornwall (NODAC), a Community Interest Company, aims to reshape the approach towards end-of-life care to help professionals and family members caring for loved ones.

Anna Sadler, who runs NODAC alongside co-director Liz Bateman, said: "For too many people, providing end of life care to a loved one is a very isolating experience.

"The process of dying and loss is less frightening when shared, and we can help people have those difficult conversations about what really matters to them as they prepare to say goodbye."

The funding will allow the project to undertake important work and improve the systems currently in place.

The majority of the £10,000 fund will be used on Tender Loving Care Retreats.

The retreats, that will start in February and last until August, will help both professional and unpaid carers navigate the final stages of life with patients and their loved ones.

NODAC will provide free places on these retreat days, which have between eight and 10 spaces on each course, to unpaid carers who are caring for family members with a terminal condition.

The company will also contribute towards travel costs.

Anna, a catastrophic organ failure survivor, established NODAC after receiving training from Felicity Warner of the School of Soul Midwives.

Ms Warner, an expert in holistic palliative and end-of-life care, is the original creator of the Tender Loving Care Retreats programme, which Anna will now deliver in Cornwall.

The workshop sessions at these retreats take place in the village of Devoran and mainly focus on personal care, as well as encouraging carers to rest.

Participants at the retreat are also offered nutritious food and can take part in a number of activities including walking, singing and yoga.

NODAC, alongside providing training, meet ups and workshops, also offer a companionship service by fully trained Soul Midwives for individuals who are at the end of life.
