National Highways is advising drivers to plan their journeys ahead of work resuming next week under closures of the A30 in Cornwall.

As part of National Highways’ A30 Chiverton to Carland Cross road upgrade, work will be taking place under overnight closures, from 8pm to 6am, on Monday (January 22), Tuesday ( January 23), Wednesday (January 24) and Thursday (January 25) followed by a full weekend closure from 8pm on Friday, January 26 to 6am on Monday, January 29.

Work next week will involve drainage, central reservation work, barrier construction, and structural construction activities across various locations of the scheme.

The A30 will be closed overnight on Monday and Tuesday between Boxheater and Scorrier with traffic diverted via the B3285, A3075 and B3277 and HGVs advised to utilise the A383, A390 and A39 due to a low bridge, as per the diagram here:

The overnight closures will then expand on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights with the A30 closed between Scorrier and Carland Cross.

For these closures, traffic will be diverted via the A3076/A3058, the A3075 and the B3277, with HGVs diverted via the A383, A390 and A39, as per this diagram:

The A30 will then be closed between Boxheater and Scorrier for the rest of the weekend from 6am on Saturday, 27 January until Monday, 29 January at 6am, with traffic again following the shorter diversions.

Neil Winter, National Highways’ Senior Project Manager for the A30 scheme, said: “We have a number of closures planned in the coming weeks as we move towards opening the new dual carriageway later this year.

“After this latest phase of work, motorists won’t see any difference to their journeys but we appreciate the closures will have an impact.

“In the meantime we advise people to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys, and we thank people in advance for their patience as we move towards completing this massive road upgrade for Cornwall.”

The new A30 dual carriageway is scheduled to be opened at the end of this winter and more information and further scheme updates are available at National Highways’ A30 Chiverton to Carland Cross web page.

The cost of developing the scheme is being partly funded by an £8 million contribution from the European Regional Development Fund, with an additional £12 million for the construction phase. The remainder of the cost of developing and delivering the scheme is being funded by central Government.
