A motorcyclist has suffered "significant' injuries following a collision between a car and a bike in Falmouth this afternoon.

The accident happened at around 3pm this afternoon on the A39 Dracaena Avenue, Falmouth at the Sainsbury's roundabout closing the road both ways.

While the motorcyclist's injuries are not thought to be life changing they were serious and they were treated by ambulance crews.

Emergency services at the scene are currently dealing with the situation but the road remains closed and traffic build up is heavy.

Inrix traffic reports: "A39 Dracaena Avenue both ways closed, queueing traffic due to accident between Sainsburys and The Esso Station."

Cornwall Council also warned people to avoid the area.

Eyewitnesses report seeing an air ambulance landing up near Falmouth Primary but this has not been confirmed. A bus was also initially reported to have been involved but it only stopped at the scene because the occupants witnessed the accident.

A police spokesperson told the Packet: "We were called to a motorcycle versus a car incident this afternoon. The injured motorcyclist was treated by ambulance crews. The injuries were significant. The bus was only stopped as it had witnesses on board.

"It does not look like the injuries are life changing and the motorcyclist is being given medical care. Officers are investigating but we have many witnesses so we are not looking for any more.

"We would warn members of the public to avoid the area while the investigation is ongoing."
