A 101-year-old woman has proven that age is just a number following her fantastic fundraising efforts.

Edna Liddicoat, a great grandmother from Cornwall, met her goal of raising £100,000 for the Merlin Neuro Therapy Centre in Hewas Water before her 100th birthday in November 2022.

She has since added a further £6,000 to the pot during the seasonal periods last year and shows no sign of stopping.

The charity believes that Mrs Liddicoat may be Cornwall’s oldest active fundraiser.

It is encouraging other organisations to share stories of their own extraordinary centenarian fundraisers.

Mrs Liddicoat's dedication to the charity was inspired by her granddaughter, Karen Medlyn, a former nurse with MS.

Following Ms Medlyn's death at just 44 back in 2014, Mrs Liddicoat pledged to keep fundraising for the centre which had provided vital support.

Known lovingly as the ‘Chick Lady’, Mrs Liddicoat and her squad of knitters produce festive chick and Father Christmas decorations which are sold across Cornwall.

She said: "Doing this gives me a sense of purpose and I know those who help me feel the same, they love to know they are supporting a good cause.

"At my age I can’t always do what I use to do, but I can knit."
