A big announcement has been made for this year's St Ives Biathlon - and the date is set.

Organisers St Ives Surf Life Saving Club have confirmed the annual Cornish event will take place on June 22.

Along with the return of main sponsor Penwith College, the event is also introducing a new online entry system.

The new online registration and payment system aims to streamline registrations for the event.

Chris Simpson, chair of St Ives Surf Life Saving Club and Biathlon event lead, said: "The St Ives Biathlon is a highlight in the St Ives calendar for many people.

"There is a fantastic atmosphere in the town and crowds gather to support the participants, particularly at the harbour where entrants start their runs."

Additionally, Mr Simpson pointed out that the Biathlon is a major fundraiser for the club.

He said: "The Biathlon is only possible with the support of local people and businesses, so we’re extremely grateful to Penwith College for returning as our headline sponsor for another year, along with supporting sponsors."

Penwith College is equally thrilled to be involved.

Steve Kenward, head of Campus, expressed the college's pride in sponsoring such a popular community event.

With this new entry system, the event is expected to draw competitors locally and internationally across different categories.

Both annual participants and newcomers, some travelling from as far as America, make this event a staple in their sporting calendar.

The 2024 biathlon marks the event's 26th anniversary and St Ives Surf Lifesaving Club's 66th anniversary.

The event has a strong track record, with over 250 people participating last year alone.

According to Mr Simpson, businesses still have the opportunity to support the event as sponsors.
