LED lighting around the base of the ‘infamous’ drummer statue in the centre Truro is just one of the proposals for multi-million improvements to Lemon Quay.

As part of the multi-million-pound Truro Town Deal, pre-application advice is being sought before a full planning application is submitted to make changes to Lemon Quay in the city.

Changes include tree planting along the south edge, tree / shrub planting in raised planters with integrated seating on the northern edge, landscaped planters and covered cycle parking at the Garras Wharf subway entrance and improvements to the subway entrance.

Proposals also include new interactive lighting / projection onto Lemon Quay’s paved surface, in-ground LED lighting strips around The Drummer sculpture, new granite benches and “playable surface features”, “rationalisation” and possible removal of “unnecessary clutter” including bollards, posts, signs and railings and other changes.

In June 2021 Truro was awarded £23.6m of the Government’s Town Deals funding. The city will see a number of developments to improve the city and its economy, including plans for a Truro community hub, green transport links, The Hive at Pydar, new life for buildings in the city centre and a Boscawen Park sports and recreation hub.
