After an immensely successful year in 2023, which saw the event raise a record £38,000, the Pink Wig night is set to return this August.

Falmouth's Pink Wig night, now recognized as the largest ladies-only night in the South West, will kick off Falmouth Week on Friday August 9.

In December, the Pink Wig team attended a cheque presentation at The Mermaid Centre, where they presented a donation of £26,000.

The centre's Professor Drew, along with three nursing colleagues, received the generous donation in style by wearing a pink wig.

An £8,000 donation was also made to Breast Cancer Now.

Chairperson Emma Kent said: "We are delighted to continue to support our local breast care centre, and as a team we have made the decision to keep all funds raised from this year onwards locally - supporting The Mermaid Centre and Oncology Research at Treliske."

This year's Pink Wig night is gearing up for a 'Freaky Friday' theme, and design shirts reflecting on this year's slogan are soon to be made available for purchase, along with e-tickets.

It has been stated that this year's event will see a stricter rule, making it mandatory for all attendees to wear a pink wig to gain entry.

It was estimated that more than 1,700 women participated in the previous Pink Wig event, sporting their brightest attire and pink wigs.

The event which was initiated as a small gesture of solidarity and comfort during Sally Hicks Wood's cancer journey in 2009, gradually evolved into a massive ladies’ night out which raises funds for Cornwall Breast Care Team and Breast Cancer Now.

Throughout the years, the Pink Wig event has expanded in terms of participation, engagement, and amount of funds it raises.

From its humble beginnings as a gathering of 20 friends, it has grown into a major local event that has seen an accumulation of £147,710 in donations for Breast Cancer Now and The Mermaid Centre at the Royal Cornwall Hospital.
