A fundraiser has been launched after Porthleven Environment Group asked the community to help pay to fill flower troughs to brighten up the entrance to the town.

Porthleven Environment Group team originally put out an appeal on Facebook asking for £70 to plant out four troughs in Wellington Road as they’d run out of money.

They said if they couldn't get the money then the troughs would have to be removed.

“We have come to a dilemma with our Wellington Road troughs,” they said in the post. “We have been planting them out for five years now but unfortunately, like everyone, we need to find some money this year in order to carry on planting them up.

“They have really brightened up the main road into Porthleven so we really hope that we can continue to do this.

“We have costed the plants and compost for the four troughs and it comes to £70.

“Please, is there anyone out there that would donate to this project that brightens up the entrance to Porthleven.”

They had an immediate response from the community and local businesses with hundreds of pounds donated to the group within hours.

Now Steve Atkinson has organised a fundraiser on GoFundMe to try and raise £500 for the group, the appeal is already half way to its target.

“We all love the work the PEG do to brighten up our little village,” he said. “Let's help them continue to do so by funding new equipment and plants. All money raised will be donated directly to the PEG for them to use how they see fit.”

You can donate to the Crowdfunder here or directly to the group on their Facebook page where you’ll find their bank account details.
