A pedestrian has been left with serious injuries following a collision with a car near Newquay at the weekend.

Police were initially called to reports of two vehicles colliding on the A3059 at St Columb Major near Newquay on Saturday evening (March 16).

But when they arrived at around 10.05pm they found the collision had involved a pedestrian and a black Nissan Note car.

A 50-year-old local man was found nearby with suspected serious injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics. The driver of the Nissan did not sustain any injuries, say police.

The man was taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital at Treliske for treatment.

Police thanked members of the public who stopped to help at the time and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called at around 10.05pm on 16 March to reports of a two vehicle collision on the A3059 at St Columb Major near Newquay.

"The collision involved a pedestrian and a black Nissan Note car.

"Members of the Air Ambulance Response team, Southwest Ambulance, Devon and Cornwall Police Response units and Roads Policing Team attended the scene.

"A 50-year-old local male pedestrian was located at the scene with suspected serious injuries. He was taken to Treliske Hospital for treatment.

"The driver of the car did not sustain any injuries.

"Officers would like to thank those members of the public who had stopped and assisted at the scene.

"Any witnesses who were not spoken to at the time and/or captured the collision on dashcam that may assist with enquiries, are requested to contact Devon & Cornwall Police on 101 quoting log 929 of March 16."
