Some of the biggest Cornish cheese manufacturers have received awards and been named winners in this year’s British Cheese Awards.

The prestigious awards which recognise the efforts and production of some of the biggest dairies in the UK took place last month at the Bath & West Showground in Shepton Mallet, Somerset.

Among this year’s entries from England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales were 25 brand-new cheeses which had been launched since the last edition of the awards.

All entries were judged in a single day, but a panel of expert cheese makers, cheesemongers, buyers, and commentators.

Cornish cheese made a big impact at the awards this year, with entries from Curds and Croust (St Austell), Lynher Dairies (Ponsanooth), Saputo Dairy UK, (Davidstow), Cornish Cheese Co. (Liskeard), and Padstow Cheese Co. (Padstow).

Davidstow-based Saputo Dairy UK won an accolade of awards in several categories and was named winners in the Best Prepared Block Cheese, Best Block Cheddar, and Best Cheddar classes.
