Redruth Town Council has appointed Charlotte Caldwell as its new town clerk.

She will take over from the long-serving Peter Bennett, who retired last December.

Charlotte has most recently been projects officer at Helston Town Council but prior to that was Redruth’s Community Link Officer at Cornwall Council for many years, so she knows the town, local community, the town councillors and officers well.

Charlotte brings to the town council her considerable experience in town centre regeneration, community projects, economic development as well as local authority processes, all of which means she’ll be able to hit the ground running.

She also set up and continues to be involved with town’s youth café Hideaway 77, which is one of her voluntary passions.

On her new role, Charlotte said: "I can't wait to get started at Redruth Town Council and to build on the considerable legacy left by my predecessor Peter Bennett.

"I've loved my time at Helston but like Helston, Redruth is a market town with exciting developments happening, new challenges and considerable opportunities.

"I am delighted to have been chosen to lead the Town Council forward and to help bring about positive change."

In her new role, Ms Caldwell will initially focus on familiarising herself with the team at the council and library.

Plans are also in place for her to meet with the local community.

Town mayor councillor Stephen Barnes said: "Charlotte was the natural choice to be our new town clerk and we are looking forward to welcoming her to the team.

"We are sure her experience and enthusiasm for Redruth will pay dividends and the Council will be stronger as a result."

He encouraged the public to engage with the council at the next meeting, which is scheduled for April 15 at 7pm at the Civic Centre.
