The charity events will be held at the Stithians Showground on Saturday, May 11 and at the Gyllyngvase Beach Car Park in Falmouth on Sunday, May 12.

They are open to people of all ages and abilities, and from all walks of life.

Participants have the choice of opting for five-kilometre and 10-kilometre races, and there's also the alternative of a five-kilometre mud-splattered obstacle course, Pretty Muddy, with a version also available for children.

The charity's spokesperson for Cornwall, Sam Morris said: "No matter how cancer affects us, life is worth racing for.

"Nearly one in two of us will get cancer in our lifetime, but Race for Life has the power not only to transform lives, but to save them.

"We’re proud that Race for Life has already helped double survival rates in the UK.

“We’d love for as many people as possible across Cornwall and beyond to join us at Race for Life." She added: “Spring is an ideal time to commit to getting more active as the days get a little warmer.

"Whether people are living with cancer, taking part in honour of or in memory of a loved one with cancer, in it for the medals or just for the fun of fundraising, there is a place for everyone.”

The initiative has seen considerable support since its launch in 1994, with more than 10 million participants over the past three decades.

Fundraising efforts from the event have enabled the development of radiotherapy, which benefits over 130,000 cancer patients in the UK annually, and the Human Papillomavirus Virus vaccine.

Chief executive of Standard Life, part of Phoenix Group, Andy Curran, said: “By working to raise funds for life-saving research, we can move towards a future where people live longer and healthier lives, free from the fear of cancer.”
