There are warnings to stay away from the cliff side at a cove near St Agnes following two “significant” rock falls.

St Agnes Lifeboat has issued the warning this evening (Tuesday) over Trevaunance Cove cliffs in Cornwall.

It has posted two images showing part of the cliff sliding on to the beach below.

It follows two storms within three days of each other, with Storm Kathleen on Saturday closely followed by Storm Pierrick on Monday night.

A spokesperson for St Agnes Lifeboat said: “Safety warning – Trevaunance Cove.

“Please be advised that there have recently been two significant rock falls to the right side of the beach. Please take care.”

The storms combined with high tides this week have caused damage in various parts of Cornwall, with holes left in part of the harbour wall at Porthleven following relentless battering by the waves, while at Castle Beach in Falmouth beach huts were washed into the sea and a new dive centre hut completely destroyed.

Trevaunance Cove hit the headlines only last week, when St Agnes Parish Council objected to plans to demolish an existing house and replace it with a modern property overlooking a different part of the beach.

However, the new property, declared an "alien imposition" on the landscape, was approved with conditions at Monday’s meeting of Cornwall Cornwall’s central area planning committee.

Trevaunance has also been the scene for a number of incidents involving cars 'parked' on the beach – only for the tide to come in and wash them into the sea, which happened in 2021 and again last year.
