Firefighters across Cornwall have been called to tackle a number of incidents this week with crews responding to incidents across the Duchy.

Crews from Penzance, St Austell, Tolvaddon and Truro have been tasked to emergencies in Penzance, Tregony (near Truro) and Redruth on Monday and Tuesday.

Firefighters were first tasked to an incident on Monday following reports of a caravan on fire in on Castle Horneck Road in Penzance just before 7pm.

An update shared on the Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service website reads: “A single fire appliance from Penzance attended the incident.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to extinguish the blaze.”

Just a few hours later, crews from St Austell responded to a separate incident on Fore Street, Sticker (Tregony).

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a leak from a gas main. Along with gas engineers, the scene was secured.

The latest incident happened on Tuesday when firefighters from Tolvaddon and Truro were called to a tumble dryer fire in a semi-detached property in Portreath.

Crews arrived just after 9pm and located the fire in the utility room.

Wearing breathing apparatus, crews used hose reels to extinguish the flames.

A Cornwall Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “Thankfully, the fire was contained to the utility area, though smoke damage affected the wider property.

“The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental and there were no reports of injuries of anyone being trapped.”
