A life-sized statue to remember a much-loved Cornish comedian is set to be unveiled in Cornwall next month.

In memory of Jethro the bronzed statue will be unveiled at Trago Mills, Liskeard on Saturday, May 25 at 2pm.

Jethro real name Geoffrey Rowe died on December 14, 2021, at the age of 73 after contracting Covid-19.

A funeral was held for the comedian in Truro Cathedral a month after his death and was attended by thousands of people, celebrities and friends.

Just months after his death, friends of the comedian launched a fundraising campaign to raise funds for a statue of the legendary Cornish comedian.

Rebel Dean, Tank Sherman, Pete Southwell and Ben Rowe have been behind the fundraising campaign and have thanked those who have helped contribute towards the statue which has been created by Cornish-based sculptor Richard Austin.

In a statement shared on the Jethro Stautue Facebook page, Rebel said: “As a proud friend of the legendary Cornish comedian Jethro and member of the committee alongside Tank Sherman, Pete Southwell and Ben Rowe for the Jethro fundraiser, I would like to thank everyone who has contributed and helped fund the life-sized bronzed statue.

“We would like to see as many people as possible for the unveiling and pay respects to the most famous Cornish comic ever.”

Tank also shared a touching tribute to Jethro. He said: “Jethro was a legend in his lifetime. He is still a legend, and will always remain in our hearts, a LEGEND.

“He put Cornwall on the map!!!

“He is greatly missed by his army of fans, not just in this country, but worldwide, and thank God, he left us a wonderful legacy of DVDs, videos and audio tapes”

The statue was originally meant to be placed at Camborne Station, but because there is already a plaque unveiled at the station for Jethro, it will now be placed at Trago Mills.
