A seaside hotel in a popular Cornwall resort could be demolished in order for the site to become houses.
Advice is being sought from Cornwall Council before a full application is submitted to bulldoze the St Merryn Hotel in Carbis Bay.
The hotel was built in the 19th century and extended in 1985.
Up until September 2018 the site was operated as a 20-bed hotel and was placed on the market via Miller Commercial.
It remained vacant until 2022 when it was purchased by the current owners.
The application states that the site currently operates in a limited capacity between May and September and only achieves full occupancy from mid-July through to August.
No food is served and there is no reception, with the business operating in a similar way to an Airbnb property.
It is proposed to demolish the existing building and form a three-storey terrace of seven houses, with a single-storey two-bed dwelling proposed in the grounds closer to the road, with independent access.
