An “incredibly brave” child suffered a “potentially serious” leg injury after they fell 20 meters from a cliff path near Falmouth on their bike.

Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team were called to a “person” fallen from a cliff between Maenporth and Swanpool yesterday evening.

Porthleven Coastguard team, and South West Ambulance Service paramedics were also despatched as well as a full time Senior Coastal Operations Officer.

When they arrived, they discovered that the “person” was in fact a boy who had fallen from their bike down the cliff while out on a ride.

The coastguard team carried out an assessment of the child’s injuries and realised he had potentially serious leg injuries.

Paramedics arrived and administered pain relief so he could be put onto a stretcher. He was then winched up the bank using rope rescue equipment before being stretchered along the footpath to the waiting ambulance.

In a post of Facebook, the coastguard rescue team praised the boy for being “incredibly brave” and wished him a speedy recovery.

It said: “We were called yesterday at 18:42 (20/05/24) to a report of a person fallen from a cliff, between Maenporth and Swanpool.

“Porthleven Coastguard Team South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust and full time Senior Coastal Operations Officer S11B were also tasked.

“On scene, it was discovered that a child on a bike ride had fallen from the cliff path, around 20 meters down a steep bank.

“Team members carried out an assessment of the casualty’s injuries, suspecting a potentially serious leg injury and began treating him.

“Paramedics then arrived on scene and administered some pain relief to enable a comfortable move to our stretcher.

“The casualty was then moved up the bank using some of our rope rescue equipment. He was then carried out along the footpath to a waiting ambulance for onward transport to hospital.

“The casualty was incredibly brave throughout his ordeal and we wish him a speedy recovery.”
