A great pub in Charlestown, Cornwall is putting on its first ever Sea Shanty day complete with five bands performing traditional songs of the sea.

The Rashleigh Arms, owned by St Austell Brewery, will be holding the day of music on May 25th. There will games for children, face painting and music, from the likes of Acapella Moonshine, Du Hag Owr, Press Gang, The Stowes and the Cobweb Crew.

This week the Cornwall pub, that is described as crackling with "boisterous enjoyment", was also named among the top ten British pubs worth making the effort to travel to.

The Rashleigh Arms in Charlestown was included on a list of '10 great British pubs worth travelling for' from The Telegraph.

Live music will be hosted in the beer garden of the pub from 1pm-10pm, and the event is free to attend.

General manager of the Rashleigh Arms, Ryan Murphy said: "We’ve been wanting to put on a sea shanty event for a while – we’re in the perfect position in Charlestown with the harbour and iconic Tall Ships a stone’s throw away.

“With all eyes on Charlestown this summer with the reopening of St Austell Brewery’s renovated Pier House and Beer House, now is the perfect time to invite people to Charlestown for some fun to kick off the summer. We hope the event will be first of many.”

The Sea Shanty day is a family friendly day for all ages and is an opportunity for everyone to have some fun and celebrate the area’s maritime heritage.
