The family of a Truro woman whose body was found in the River Fal earlier this year have begun a search for answers in the run up to her inquest.

On February 8 the body of Natasha Birkin, known to her family and friends as Tasha, was found in the river near Ruan, around four miles from Truro where she lived.

An inquest into her death is now scheduled to take place on October 8, and before then her family are hoping to speak to anyone who might have seen the 35-year-old mum-of-two on the day she died.

In a post on Facebook they have said: “We are looking for answers as to what led to her death. Please, if anyone saw Tasha on that day, could you get in touch? Did anyone see or speak to her?

“I appreciate it was a couple of months ago but we are just looking for answers as there is now an inquest and we don't believe she was alone, as this is very out of character for her.

“She would have been wearing a tracksuit and sliders.

“Any information please get in touch as the family would be very grateful.”

The family has also posted a picture of Tasha in the outfit they believe she was wearing on the day she died.

Tasha’s sister Sharna told the Packet: “The last known sighting of Tasha was on Trelander at approximately 11am [on Thursday, February 8].

“The kids said she seemed to be happy and cheerful. She was due to go to her friend later on that day but never arrived.

“The day before she was at home, I don't believe she went out.

“Tasha is the sort of person that will talk to anyone, she is fun loving and friendly.”

Sharna said that while the last known sighting was by a friend, at 11am at Trelander, Tasha is also believed to have visited a Spar shop in Truro on the day she died – either the Pydar Street store before the confirmed sighting, or the Trelander store afterwards. Her family is still trying to establish firm details on this.

She added that the family cannot understand why Tasha was found at Ruan, as it was somewhere they don’t remember her ever going.

Anyone who remembers seeing Tasha on the day she died can contact Sharna through Facebook, or email the Packet via to arrange to make contact.
