The Helston Rugby Women’s team have raised £900 following a gruelling 12-hour sponsored run around Helston Boating Lake at the weekend.
The team, affectionally known as the ‘Vixens’ covered a total of 54 miles, completing 162 laps all in the name of securing vital transport funds for the upcoming season.
Dedicated members of the team raised £900 throughout the 12 hours, bringing them closer to their target of £4,200 needed to cover the cost of transportation for their away matches.
The Vixens are faced with a significant travel burden, with games scheduled across Devon and Somerset, including Plymouth, Bude Okehampton, Bridgewater, Topsham, Bideford, and North Petherton.
Each journey is expected to cost £600 for the hiring of a coach, placing a strain on the team’s budget.
“We’re more than just a team; we’re a group of friends who are passionate about rugby and support each other on and off the pitch,” said a team spokesperson.
“Our fundraising efforts are essential to keep the team going and allow us to compete at our best.”
Determined to overcome this financial hurdle, the Vixens are encouraging the local community to support their fundraising efforts through their GoFundMe page.

“Every pound donated gets us closer to securing transport for every away game,” said the spokesperson.
“We’re incredibly grateful for the support we’ve already received, and we believe that with continued community backing, we can ensure our team stays strong and continues to inspire.”
