A man is in a serious but stable condition after a boat collision during Fowey Regatta Week.
The crew member who was participating in one of the races was seriously injured after his boat collided with another participant’s boat.
Due to the severity of his injuries, the man was taken to hospital where he had surgery.
It is now believed the casualty is in a stable, but serious condition.
Fowey RNLI has shared more details about this incident on its Facebook page.
The statement said: “On Wednesday, August 21 during racing inside Fowey Harbour as part of Fowey regatta week, two boats participating in one of the races collided. This caused the crew member at the front of one of the boats to sustain serious life-threatening injuries.
“The regatta safety medics who were already on the scene responded and a Mayday was put out for Fowey’s all-weather lifeboat to respond. The lifeboat launched at 3.46pm.
“The casualty subsequently had urgent surgery, and we understand he is now stable but in a very serious condition. Our thoughts are with him and his family and friends.
“No further details will be released at this stage.”
Fowey Regatta and Carnival is one of the UK’s best-known sailing events with a long history.
The seven-day event also has traditional events including a Carnival procession, fireworks, crab-catching, harbour swim and live music.
