A man who was previously thought to have been in Cornwall while being hunted for police has been charged with murder after officers stopped him at Notting Hill Carnival.
Detectives had previously issued an appeal to locate Kamar Williams, who was wanted in connection with the fatal stabbing of 53-year-old bus driver Derek Thomas in Stoke Newington.
Officers from Devon and Cornwall Police were brought in to help with the search, after Williams was traced to the Camborne area earlier this month.
Now the Metropolitan Police have issued an update to say that 33-year-old Kamar Williams, from the Isle of Dogs, was arrested on Monday this week (August 26) after being stopped by police at Notting Hill Carnival in London.
He was subsequently charged on Tuesday (August 27) with murder and possession of a knife.
Williams is due to appear in custody at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court today Wednesday (August 28).
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Derek’s family has been informed and continue to be supported by specialist officers.”
A 30-year-old woman was previously arrested on Saturday, August 3 on suspicion of assisting an offender and taken into custody. She was later released on bail.
