With just over a week to go until the Martin Jennings Memorial Run, the charity benefiting from this year's event, the Alzheimer's Society, has expressed its gratitude.
As reported in the Packet this week, the Martin Jennings Memorial Run will take place on Sunday, September 8, 2024.
The event, which sees more than a thousand bikers take part will celebrate its 37th year this year, in memory of Martin Jennings who lost his life while competing in the Isles of Man Manx GP.
This year's run will be in aid of the Alzheimer's Society, and a Just Giving page has been set up for all those wishing to contribute who are not taking part in the run.
"We are extremely grateful"
Claire Frost, regional fundraiser at Alzheimer’s Society has expressed her gratitude.
“We are extremely grateful that this year’s memorial motorcycle run will be in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society,” said Claire.
“One in three people born today will develop dementia in their lifetime. Currently, 11,300 people living with dementia in Cornwall rely on Alzheimer's Society's support."
Claire explained that in Cornwall, there are currently eight dementia advisors and a popular singing for the Brain Group in Truro.
“Whoever you are, whatever you’re going through, you can turn to Alzheimer’s Society for practical advice, emotional support, and guidance,” Claire added.
“Alzheimer’s Society provides help and hope to everyone living with dementia and donations will ensure those affected get the life-changing support they need."

Date for annual memorial motorcycle run in Cornwall announced
For this year’s memorial run, the bikers taking part will start gathering from 8.30am at the Tregurra Park and Ride Car Park Truro, in readiness for their countywide ride around Cornwall in memory of Martin Jennings of Beacon Camborne who sadly lost his life competing in the Isle of Man Manx GP.
Here are the times and routes of the 2024 Martin Jennings run in Cornwall:
The run is due to leave Tregurra at 11am, so there will be delays of about 15 minutes on the St Austell side of the car park, as the bikers leave en masse heading in the Tresillian direction, the organisers apologise for any inconvenience caused to other road users.
The morning route is kept secret for safety reasons and can be controlled in keeping it all together.
After the lunch stop at Cornwall Services, the huge convoy of motorcycles will make its way down the A30 to Camborne West, where it will then go through Camborne, and then up to Beacon, Martins's home village, arriving at 3pm, where a minutes silence will be held in the village square, for Martin Jennings and all other bikers that have lost their lives on the roads of Cornwall and beyond.
The run will then continue to the finish at the Falmouth Recreation Ground arriving at 4.15pm, via Troon, Helston, Rame, Londowns, Treliever, Penryn By-pass, Ponsharden, Greenbank, Main Street, Bar Road, Castle Drive, Seafront, Pennance Road, and Western Terrace.
The best viewing points will be from the bridges on the A30 between 2.15pm and 2.50pm, but spectators are reminded to park sensibly when viewing from the bridges or the laybys.
This year's run will be in aid of the Alzheimer's Society, and a Just Giving page has been set up for all those wishing to contribute who are not taking part in the run.
