Helston’s Harvest Fair celebrations have begun, with two events to enjoy this weekend followed by the carnival next week.
First up today (Saturday, September 7) is the Helston Harvest Fair Family Fun Dog Show, outside the Old Cattle Market next to the boating lake.
Entries are accepted from 10am, with judging from 10.30am.
Classes included most handsome dog, prettiest bitch, golden oldie, cutest puppy, junior handling, waggiest tail, dog/bitch most like their owner, best legs combo, ‘My Dog’s Got Talent’ and fancy dress – the dog, handler or both.
Then tomorrow (Sunday, September 8) it’s the turn of the Horticultural and Craft Show.
This takes place inside the Old Cattle Market, which will be open for people to view the entries from 2pm. Prize giving will then take place at 4pm.
There are sections for flowers, fruit and vegetables, cookery, handicrafts, photography, floral art and classes just for children.
Finally, the ever-popular Helston Carnival will take place next Saturday, September 14, to conclude this year’s celebrations.
This popular event is a tradition which has grown in popularity over the past few years, with more and more people seizing the opportunity to dress up as some of their favourite characters.
This year promises to be even more spectacular, with ten different classes showcasing the talent of local participants – from three different sizes of float, to decorated vehicles, vintage cars and other decorated transport with wheels, whether that be a bike, buggy, wheelchair or similar.
There are also classes for walkers – both groups and individuals. Winners will be judged in every class.
Each class winner will receive a trophy and cash prize donated by carnival sponsor Flambards.
Judging takes place in the Tesco car park at 4.45pm, before the carnival leaves at 6pm to begin its route along Clodgey Lane, down Trengrouse Way and through the town centre – down Meneage Street, Coinagehall Street and then back up the street along Wendron Street, Station Road and back to Tesco.
For more information and updates on the event, including how to enter and what happens in the event of wet weather, visit the Helston Carnival website and social media pages.
