A firm in Cornwall has been named as one of the UK's 100 best small businesses.
Flotsam Flo was recognised by the Small Business Saturday UK campaign, which aims to encourage public support for small businesses.
The Redruth company was founded by Kate Doran in 2021, following her recovery from a brain haemorrhage.
It focuses on sustainability by turning hard-to-recycle plastic waste, such as broken wetsuits, inflatables, life jackets, and old marketing banners, into unique bags and accessories.
Each item is handmade in Cornwall by Ms Doran, helping to reduce waste and promote eco-friendly living.
Flotsam Flo also supports local charities and organises workshops and talks to raise awareness about plastic pollution.
Ms Doran said: "I am incredibly honoured that Flotsam Flo has been recognised as part of this year's SmallBiz100.
"This journey began as a personal mission to transform plastic waste into something meaningful while also reflecting my own journey of resilience.
"Inspired by my love of making and the environment, and drawing on the skills my Granny Florence taught me, Flotsam Flo combines creativity with sustainability.
"This recognition not only celebrates our efforts to reduce plastic waste but also highlights the power of small businesses to drive positive change.
"I hope it inspires others to see the beauty in sustainability and the impact we can make, one handmade piece at a time."
The SmallBiz100 line-up showcases 100 of the most impressive independent businesses from across the UK, as part of the countdown to Small Business Saturday on December 7.
The campaign, which has been running for more than 10 years, encourages consumers to 'shop local' and support businesses in their communities.
Michelle Ovens CBE, director of Small Business Saturday UK, said: "It’s great to celebrate Flotsam Flo as part of this year’s campaign.
"This year’s SmallBiz100 list shows the huge contribution small businesses make to their communities and the wider UK economy.
"Despite the economy turning a corner, the nation’s small businesses continue to feel the fallout of a challenging few years and still need significant support to get back on their feet.
"Small Business Saturday is all about getting the nation to come out in force and show its love for our local businesses."
Flotsam Flo will be profiled by the campaign on September 20 as part of the 100-day countdown to Small Business Saturday UK.
