Tesco has recalled a festive favourite that many people are likely to have in their house over the Christmas and New Year period.

The recall involves three varieties of its own-brand pates, due to incorrect use-by dates potentially making them unsafe to eat.

Alert, published by the Food Standards Agency this lunchtime on Saturday (January 3) states: “Tesco is recalling various Tesco Pates as they have been labelled with an incorrect use by date printed on the pack.

“The products may pose a microbiological risk, making them unsafe to eat.”

The three pates in the recall are:

Tesco Coarse Farmhouse Pate

  • Pack size: 170g
  • Use by: 05 January 2026

Tesco Coarse Ardennes Pate

  • Pack size: 170g
  • Use by: 05 January 2026

Tesco Smooth Chicken Liver Pate

  • Pack size: 170g
  • Use by: 05 January 2026

Risk statement

The products listed above have been labelled with an incorrect ‘use-by’ date printed on the pack. The products may pose a microbiological risk, making them unsafe to eat.

Action taken by the company

Tesco is recalling the above products. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling these products. These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the products.

What you should do

If you have bought any of the above products, do not consume them. Instead, return them to the store from where they were purchased for a full refund.
