Fire crews battled through the evening to bring a large blaze at a commercial garage in Cornwall under control yesterday.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service were first alerted just after 8.30pm on Friday that a fire had broken out in a garage workshop in Lanivet.

With smoke blowing across the A389, drivers were warned to “proceed with caution” or find an alternative route.

In an update at 9.45pm, a fire service spokesperson said: “Firefighters are responding to a fire at a commercial address at Truro Road, Lanivet.

“Pumping appliances from Bodmin, St Dennis, and Lostwithiel are at this incident.

“Firefighters are using two hose reel jets and a main jet to extinguish the fire. Good progress is being made.”

A further update came at 12.30am, to confirm that the fire was out and all appliances had left the scene.

Speaking about the incident on Saturday, a St Dennis Community Fire Station representative said: “We were called along with Bodmin Community Fire Station and Lostwithiel Community Fire Station to a large garage fire in Lanivet.

“Upon arrival our crews tackled the fire from the roadside whilst crews from Bodmin and Lostwithiel wore breathing apparatus and tackled from the opposite side.

“Good progress was made by all to extinguish the fire.”
