Volunteers helping to get Helston in shape for Flora Day

With Flora Day fast approaching, Dale Brikdon and Martin Barnett, along with a small team of helpers, spent the morning clearing out the kennels on Godolphin Road, lending their time to ensure the area looks its best ahead of the celebrations on Friday, May 8.

While Dale, Martin and their team focused on the kennels, other volunteers and organisations have also been busy across Helston as part of the annual spring spruce‑up.

Each year, the Rotary Club of Helston‑Lizard maintains the town’s whitewashed walls ahead of Flora Day.

The club took on the task after a Midday Dance rehearsal in 2012, when John Head, concerned about the deteriorating condition of the walls, shared his vision to restore them to their former glory by Flora Day 2013. The tradition has continued ever since.
