Fans of the BBC drama Beyond Paradise can now book a stay at the real-life Cornish cottage used as one of the show’s most recognisable filming locations.
Quay Cottage, set on the Pentillie Castle Estate near the River Tamar, is used in the series as the home of DI Humphrey Goodman and his wife Martha. The quayside property has appeared in every series of the Death in Paradise spin-off and is now available to book via holidaycottages.co.uk.
While the fictional town of Shipton Abbott is described in the show as being in south Devon, the cottage itself is located on the Cornwall side of the Devon–Cornwall border, within the Tamar Valley National Landscape.
Season four of Beyond Paradise premiered on Friday, March 27, once again showcasing the scenic south west as Humphrey, played by Kris Marshall, continues to settle into life in Martha’s hometown. Although portrayed as a sleepy Devonshire community, much of the programme is filmed across south-east Cornwall.
The owner of Quay Cottage, Sammie Coryton, said filming typically takes place for a couple of weeks at a time during each season.
‘Filming for each season has typically taken place for a couple of weeks at a time, during which the tea tent was often a lovely spot to catch a glimpse of the action and gain a little insight into the storyline as it unfolds,’ she said.
‘The boat Lily Bond was often moored at the quay, which is directly outside of the cottage, for several weeks during filming. The cast and crew have always been a pleasure to work with; polite, professional and great fun.’
Several other Cornish locations are also used to bring Shipton Abbott to life on screen. Seafront and beach scenes are filmed in the coastal town of Looe, while the fictional town’s high street is shot in Launceston.
The recently revamped cottage sleeps four guests in two double bedrooms overlooking the river. One bedroom is a super king-size with an en-suite bathroom, while the second is a king-size served by a separate shower room.
Downstairs, the kitchen is fully equipped, while the dining room features large bay windows and a wood burner. The lounge offers river views and includes a Smart TV.
Guests can enjoy views across the water towards the Victorian bathing hut on the river’s edge, along with access to walks through the estate’s 55 acres of Repton-designed woodland gardens. The dog‑friendly property is available from £827 per night.
