A transformation is underway at Royal Cornwall Hospital’s Mermaid Centre, with its waiting room now shut for “several weeks”.
The hospital has confirmed the closure while work takes place to create a more welcoming reception and patient area.
During the refurbishment, patients will be directed to a temporary reception, waiting room and patient toilet housed in a portacabin in the Mermaid and The Cove car park. On arrival, patients should register at the temporary reception, where a member of staff will collect them for their appointment.
However, the trust has warned that parking in the Mermaid and The Cove car park will be limited during the works. The drop‑off zone will remain open, along with the Blue Badge spaces.

Additional parking is available in the 1C car park opposite the Microbiology building, around 100 metres away, near the bright yellow pavement.
A spokesperson for the trust said: “From Monday 13 April, the Mermaid Centre waiting room will be closed for a few weeks while work takes place to create a more welcoming reception and patient waiting area.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience while improvements are completed.”
